The Investiture of Tokerau Tinomana Ariki.

So my nana really wanted her mokopunas (grandchildren) to attend this huge event in Arorangi yesterday, thank goodness our mum had arrived that morning from Auckland and came along, We had a personal translator. My step grandpas father was a Tinomana Ariki so it was important he attended. It was so interesting to watch, lots of singing and dancing, gave me goosebumps! It got pretty heated when a group of opposition tried to stop the investiture from happening, I felt sorry for this little old lady coping so much heat.

The title Tinomana Ariki – translates as “absolute power” pretty much over your village so this lady – Tokerau Munro is the high chief of Vaka Puaikura (village) now. But if you want to know more read CI News – Tinomana Ariki title history
